Problem is you can't prevent the user from doing a dummy. If you set their email to update on opening outlook, then the user hits the refresh key - it starts 2 threads to retrieve the mail and they stomp on each other. If the users would just leave it alone it would be fine but...... They typically do this when they start it up, and immediately don't see mail (because the software is downloading a large message - a zip file or image say).
You want multi-threading because that way you can be retrieving from more than one account at a time. I'm not sure how you'd prevent the threads from stomping on each other this way though if the user pulls a doozy.
