We just tested this program and a variety of others as well.
It really is quite nice. It is very small, inexpensive, and quite
powerful. It has many features including smtp auth. It is rapidly
deployed too. There is an active user list and a good many 3rd
party utilities. One of the 3rd party utilities is Mail Filter Pro
which provides a means to test for viruses using one of two
possible virus engines. Extension blocking and spam protection are
also provided.
It certainly would work for low volume applications but I was
disappointed at performance even in my limited testing.
Still - a very nice job all around for the community that supports
the product. The Mail Filter Pro and other 3rd party utilities
are very well done.
As for other mail servers our tests continue to indicate that
there is either a significant cost increase and/or a very
considerable effort in administration compared to IMAIL. Imail
remains in a rather unique class despite its faults although that
is surely narrowing.
