We have a server that is hosting several domains. At least some of them
seem to be presenting what I think is wrong information when connecting to
a target e-mail server to deliver e-mail.
What seems to be happening is that instead of presenting the IP address for
the sending domain iMail is sending the receiving server the base (first)
IP address of the server, which actually has no e-mail account and is used
only for administration purposes. This is then apparently reverse DNS
resolved by the receiving server to awasco.com which IS what would come out
of this IP address although it is again not the base IP address for Awasco.
We are running Imail 7.07 on a Windows 2000 server (also running SQL Server
2000 - another nightmare).
I could not find any reference to anyone else seeing this on the list, but
I have not gone back in the archives so forgive me if everyone else knows
about this.
Here is the log entry for one of the transmissions. The end result is the
mail is not delivered and fails after 20 attempts.
the "Hello" sequence is what appears to be wrong. This should show
www.cado-oregon.org and an IP address of 64.85.18.53. Following this is
the message "(may be forged)". I need to get rid of this problem and make
the proper domain and IP address get presented.
I am assuming that we have something set up wrong in iMail. Does anyone
have any suggestions? There are at least three sites where this is
happening judging from the log and only one of them has complained so far.
