Whatever the server's checking regarding Reverse DNS, it may be doing because the client failed to authenticate successfully and is being treated as an untrusted host. In most setups, authenticated sessions, and sessions from private IPs or trusted public IPs, do not have their PTR checked at all (explicit trust should short-circuit spam checks whenever possible).
