How about Clustering http://www.iwebhardware.com/servers/clusters.html. We
did it in the Military for exchange.

Subject: [IMail Forum] Mirroring an iMail server

This week the server farm where we have our iMail server suffered some
significant problems. Several of their servers were attacked which
contributed to the reputed Internet slowdown and they had significant
problems with some Cisco routers which were changed out about three to four
time. In the muck up we had our server out intermittently and for one
period virtually overnight while they tried to fix everything. The
question has been posed "what about your back up plans fellows?"

This has given us pause to ask the question how can we provide a mirror for
the iMail server? If so how does it work?

If anyone has done this, would you mind sharing the techniques and
strategies for setting it up and making it work seamlessly?

It is apparent to me the DNS servers are key to it. If Server A is down
then Server B gets the email through two address entries I would
guess. This must mean we have to have a mirrored set of email accounts on
both servers and make sure they are kept in sync.

So when this happens with some of the mail for client X on server A and
some on server B how does it get merged? Or does it? If not how can the
client be sure of picking up all of his e-mail.

What if you have unique IP addresses for each email domain? How is that
all sorted out? Do you have a duplicate set for the second server or do
you set up virtual hosts on the second server just to pick up the mail?

You can tell I don't even know enough in this area to be too dangerous.
