Absolutely Andrew!.. Ha I put together a JBOD SAN solution via fibre (160
Gig array) that we use just for this purpose at our main location.  Got
really tired of trying to find tapes... large enough to hold data and
wouldn't over flex the budget. My theory was that if one of the servers
crashed a hard drive you'd have to hope that the tape didn't get old or
stretched and was able to 'restore' correctly.  Out of all the tape
functions I've dealt with since the early 80's I'd have to say I never felt
'secure' about our data being backed up cleanly. Now if a hd failure would
ever happen just about anyone can swap the hd out.. fast.
