My first choice for forward zones is to use my own DNS servers. My second choice for forward zones is to use DNS servers of a trusted company.
My first choice for reverse zones is to have ISP delegate authority to my DNS servers. My second choice for reverse zones is to have ISP make the records I need. If they are not willing to delegate and give me a hassle about making PTR records, I choose another ISP. BTW, a domain registration company can not do PTR records.
