Agreed. If MS wanted to make their product closed to other software, they should have closed it, such so that other software couldn't be loaded at all, ie, a "toaster", and not a general purpose platform. Then the buyer knows what he's getting without descending into MS legal hell to discover the killer gothcas.
MS is trying to low-ball price an MS non-open server pkg to compete or price with free, open software alternatives. Apparently, MS is hearing that MS has a "pricing problem", aka, competition.
MS chose, being a cash-strapped and resource-limited weakling, the cheap way to deliver this new product, and uses the smoke-and-mirrors legal BS (which is MS's real "innovation", not technology) to threaten/bully purchasers into not running non-MS software.
Ipswitch is interested only in the valid licensing of their own products, not anyone else's.
A critical difference vs. MS that totally escapes the MS shills/cheerleaders/apologists.
