Also, if I connect to it’s internet name….https://webmail.ruralpress.com:8384, then it works fine. Once again, that is via name. It always works if I get to it via a DNS. Either webmail.ruralpress.com from outside the firewall, or “rplemail” from inside our network. I only get the problem if I go to is via the IP. It’s really weird, cause rplemail resolves to 10.254.1.238 anyway……

Yep. Exact same problem. I’ve literally use Terminal Services to connect to our mail server, and tired using IE on the actual server itself. Same problem happens.

Even tried on several other computers in the same subnet. Tried from a few other subnets. All with the same result. I can pretty safely say it’s not relating to a routing issue.

Then what about the paths thru you switches, firewalls, or dmz's ?.  Do you see the same results regardless of user, machine or location within your works network?

Those IP’s are internal IP’s, so you can’t get to them via the internet. I use VPN from home to connect to work, so I can connect to those IP’s. You can’ use the 10.0.0.0/8 subnet on the internet, it’s not routable by the Internet routers.

I have tried the various URL's you have posted in several of your emails...  so far...  every single one has failed to load with a DNS not found error.     Maybe your problem is your registrars DNS settings and you are only finding a few of your own yourself because of some local connection/cache of yours.

What’s even stranger….is if I go to http://10.254.1.239:8383 the webmail page loads. If I don’t close Internet Explorer and then open http://10.254.1.238:8383 it loads straight away. I can log in. No problems.

I close IE, and go directly to .238:8383, it doesn’t work. I get the blank page again. I go to .239, it loads, then straight away go back to .238 and it works.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr @ Imail at the moment!!!!

You got me.  Sounds like Ipswitch needs to explore this one.

Ok, now this is really weird!

We have 5 mail domains on our mail server. Each one has it’s own IP Address. Those IP’s are:

10.254.1.238 (ruralpress.com)

10.254.1.239 (villagvoice.com.au)

10.254.1.242 (bendigoadvertiser.com.au)

10.254.1.243 (mailtimes.com.au)

10.254.1.244 (thecourier.com.au)

If I access webmail by using ruralpress.com’s IP address, I get the blank page. If I go to 10.254.1.239:8383 it loads, first time every time. Same with .242 and .243. But, .244 gives me the same problem as the .238 one.

That is really weird!!!!

I think only Ipswitch has it.  I have not seen it for download.

Figured it was a shot...I think the alis only has to do with delivery..not the web mail.

Hmm...I just tried mine with the IP Address approach only and everything seem to work just fine.  Have you had Ipswitch run the reg checker onyour hive?

Thanks. I just tried it, but it didn’t work.

I added 10.254.1.238 as a host alias for the rplemail.ruralpress.com domain. Stopped and started all Imail services (just in case). Didn’t make a difference. Still the same problem.

Thanks anyway though. I’m willing to try anything at the moment. I’ve spent my entire weekend trying things with no luck.

Thanks!

Chris

Maybe add your IP address as a host alias??

Hi all,

In versions 8.10, 8.11 & 8.12, there are new default webmail templates. They look good, much better than the old standard yellow templates.

However, if we try and access webmail via the IP of our mail server) we are taken to http://10.254.1.238:8383/login.cgi?_ and the page never loads. It’s just a blank page. If I access the URL http://rplemail:8383 it works fine! RPLEMAIL is the netbios (WINS) name of the server.

I emailed Ipswitch and they suggested uninstalling and performing a full install of 8.11 (we had previously just used upgrades to get from version 8.00 to 8.11). So, yesterday morning (Saturday in Australia) I did this. I completely uninstalled Imail, then renamed the e:\Imail folder to Imail_OLD.

Installed the 8.11 full-install to e:\imail. I then checked the webmail, and it worked using the IP Address. Before I restored our data, I installed the 8.12 update. Checked webmail again and it was still working. Great!

Then, I copied back the directories for out 5 mail domains, the rules.ima file and the certificate I had created previously for SSL.

Next, I restored all values to the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IPSWITCH\IMAIL\DOMAINS. Restarted all Imail services, and our 5 domains appeared in the Imail Administrator. Fantastic!

So, I checked the Webmail again, and surprise, surprise, Webmail was not working! Same problem! It happens as soon as I import the DOMAINS registry key. If I go into the Web Messaging Service and disable the “Enable User Login Suspend” option, the problem goes away. Enable it, and it comes back again.

So, I repeated the uninstall again. This time, I installed 8.11, upgraded to 8.12, then turned on that option. Webmail works!!!????

Restored our data…..doesn’t work.

I don’t understand what could be doing this. I am not restoring any of the Services registry information. Only our Domain information.

Does any one have any ideas? I really want to start using the new webmail templates included with Imail.

Thanks.

Chris Jones
