I'm really comparing system overhead here. Clam takes a big chunk out of the processor when it runs while f-prot barely even registers. Send out a 10K user newsletter and this becomes a problem. Clam is fairly aggressive at detecting phishing attempts, but FProt doesn't even try. ... because F-Prot is a virus scanner, not anti-spam. If that really is why ClamAV appeared to detect more viruses, this would definitely explain the perceived difference.
