I hesitated on the use of the word "argument."  Our language needs a better
word for that concept.  I was thinking "argument: A fact or statement put
forth as proof or evidence; a reason."  I should have heeded my hesitation,
I never meant to imply any argumentative discussion on your part.

Your reminder that both e-mail and snail mail are government creations -is-
very funny. You may be onto something there.

But the line between ARPAnet and academia is fuzzy.  SMTP is largely
attributed to Jon Postel who was working for the University of Southern
California at the time, no doubt under ARPAnet contract though.

In any event, the point we're both trying to make to Kerry is, don't blame
the protocol.  We must blame the abuse of the protocol and let users know
the abuse is possible and abuse has always been possible even before the
time of wax seals on envelopes.
