Yep that was it! I wonder if I've never had this happen before or if I've never had anyone complain before the 54 tries ran out before.
Anybody care to take a stab at why I couldn't "hand create" an e-mail to Yahoo with telnet on port 25? I used telnet to send an e-mail through a different mail server last night just to convince myself that I still knew how to do it and it worked but Yahoo wouldn't let me do one from my work network or home network.
