There is two possiblities, either the CD media is bad or the CDROM
drive itself is bad.
If you can mount the CD media with another machine and there is no
error. Then the CDROM drive itself might have issues. If you have other
SOlaris CD1 media, you can try booting it and see whether it works.
If the same CD drive cannot boot any media successfully, then the drive
should be replaced.
We just went throught this with one of our SUn Blade 1500. It can boot
the CD1 media without any problem. However, it cannot boot the DVD media
successfully. The same DVD media boots fine on other sparc machines.
After we replace the DVD drive, the same DVD media boots fine without
any issues.
