That is exactly what he is talking about. Originally InterMapper was a
product made exclusively for the Mac, and as such it was itegrated
with that platform's OS. Dartware calls this "InterMapper
Traditional". Then, in the interest of cross-platform compatibility
the whole thing

1) was rewritten in Java
2) adopted the [monitoring deamon] + [GUI] model

This is now called "InterMapper Console". The GUI itself is also
available as a standalone product "InterMapper Remote".

More or less.

This move makes sense, except Console has a slightly different
navigation/features and sometimes lacks the MacOS candy/rendering.
That's what folks are talking about, because many of them have trouble
adopting to the new product after using the old product for years.
Basically Dartware and these customers are trying to iron things out
to keep the best of both worlds.

Forgive me, but we run InterMapper server on Sun Solaris, and use the IM

So when you refer to Traditional are you talking about the old Mac based
InterMapper?

Just curious.

One other thing I like about the Traditional interface compared to
the new 'console' interface is that with traditional animation stops
when you are editing.

With Intermapper Console 4.4.2 the animation continues when you are
editing. Thus you don't have instant visual feedback that you have
successfully entered edit mode, plus the animation makes it more
difficult to edit maps.
