In my experience with gentoo, the package maintainers are quite
conservative (probably rightly so) with what they choose to mark as stable.
So as Tom indicated, most of the recent ion3 builds are marked as "~"
(testing). Realistically, if you want a decently current system, you have
to enable allow ~x86 for many packages.
