Jim, I've been following your thread with interest as well.

Our problems are similar yet different.  I didn't get any dead firmware
warnings, but I have an unrecognized card that ivtv defaults to a 250.

I'm getting the same i2c addr errors that indicate a bad tuner as you.

This is exactly what I did:

download and expand kernel sources.
ln -s /usr/src/linux-2.6.10 /usr/src/linux
cd /usr/src/linux
make clean
make mrproper
make menuconfig
make
make modules
make modules_install
make install

reboot

cd /tmp/ivtv-0.3.2a/driver
make
make install

modprobe ivtv

I get the following error:
FATAL: Module msp3400 not found.
FATAL: Error running install command for ivtv

If I list the directory contents of /tmp/ivtv-0.3.2a/driver, I can see
all the new modules that were built.

I have a feeling that if I knew exactly where they were supposed to go,
I could just copy them over.
