I believe I fixed it. I moved from ubuntu 7.04 to 7.10 which got me ivtv version 1.0.0. I tried updating ivtv by hand which was a fiasco so I figured what the heck upgrade and see what happens. A shortened dmesg is at the bottom to let those who care see what it does.
In testing yesterday I had 4 recordings going on, a transcode of video with mencoder, a couple commercial markings running, and a copy of a few gigs of data on the same partition. I duplicated that this morning and no jiffies so far.
