Six legs, 3 DOF each makes 18 servo's. So a 16f88 for each two legs and use i2c to hook them up to the master will be the 'easy' way. The cheap way is to connect 9 servo's to a slave and 9 to the master. Requires some tweaking of the library and carefull programming. Only recomended for mass production ;)
