        Interesting analysis.
        I've always found it pretty suspicious that Java technology, 
        an architecture that champions platform-independence, 
        is wholly owned by a corporation that builds 
        not just a proprietary OS, but the hardware to go with it. 
        The marketing strategies of the parent corporation 
        HAVE to come into play when planning the future of Java --
        Sun would not have survived this long 
        had they not the business sense to do so. 

        *sigh* I guess we all can dream of a world
        wherein Javasoft is an independent company,
        or at least a subsidiary of Ford or something.

        (PS: As an occasional low-level programmer, 
              I heartily agree that Solaris 
               is beautiful from that perspective. 
             As an occasional system administrator, 
              I think Solaris is a giant pain in the tookus.
               Though nothing compares to the evil that is Irix. ;)
