I am in favor of including both versions at deployment. You can then let the user, by the use of a start-up configuration menu choose between the two and thereby let him/her use the one that works best on his/her machine.
This can be implemented by including both versions with your app and then according to the user choice set the class path to the correct version. I have found no way to change the version in use after the actual application has started so the user will have to restart the application to change the setting.
