If I recall the details correctly, Jonathan was all "yay Android"
because the details of the SDK didn't come out until a few days
later. Jonathan's blog is from Nov. 5, 2007, and the SDK was released
the next week, on Nov. 12. It was only then that everyone first
realized that Dalvik was an end-run around the JVM (and paying a
license to Sun). Here's an InfoQ analysis of the Android SDK from the
day of its release: <http://www.infoq.com/news/2007/11/android-java>

IIRC, the mood at Sun got *very* dark on Nov. 12. I attended their
Mobile & Embedded Developer Days in January, and it was very obvious
that everyone from Sun had been explicitly instructed not to mention
Google's platform or even speak its name aloud (you can tell when
someone is rewriting sentences in their head to avoid saying what they
really want to say, and there was a lot of it that week in Santa
Clara).

Between the premature praise for Android, and his premature (and
wrong) announcement that Apple would switch to ZFS in Mac OS X 10.5
<http://www.macworld.com/article/58320/2007/06/zfs.html>… well, maybe
this is why other CEOs don't blog. And why other CEOs are still CEOs.
