We can only hope it does but there has already been damage. People are now starting to think there may be some truth to the tale that Java is dead. Once enough people start thinking that something might happen, it becomes a self-fulfilling outcome.
If we want Java to live, grow, and prosper (as I hope we all do), we need to make sure other people don't think it is dead or dying. Whatever the outcome of all this mess, I still don't see many viable options for businesses. They are not going to convert everything over to Scala, or Grails, or Go, or something else. There is a lot of strength because of all the people who use it.
