How can they do that? With Android phones, firmware updates depend on Google, the vendor and the carrier. And remember - vendors / carriers would rather sell you a new phone than upgrading your existing one. They're also publicly traded companies, so making a guarantee one year into the future is difficult. Only Apple could make that guarantee since they call the shots with the iPhone.
