Subscribers of a newspaper are typically allowed to insert ads, personals etc. for free... it's a good way to keep people subscribed to your newspaper. One could argue that when you buy an iPad you become a permanent subscriber, when you pay Apple 99,- to be a developer, you also become a publisher on that medium. The thing is, where does the skimming stop? Could you imagine for instance Apple skimming 30% of everything you sell using an eBay application?
