Check this out though at my wife's suggestion I dumped the entire list in to excel and was able to sort it. Still I should know how to do it in word so I'll save all of these instructions. Would you believe it's under the tables menu. My choices in the sort dialog are 'paragraph' and 'field 1'. I was tinkering with a list, so did 'field 1' and it sorted neatly.
