They do in fact, make something like a wireless modem. For a while I was using one of these. My neighbors run an ISP out of their house and they offer wireless to their neighbors. I used what is called a wireless bridge to connect to their system. It is a wireless receiver and you just plug it into the eathernet port on your computer and bam! you're online. So it is a bit different than a wireless modem since it doesn't connect to the phone, but it does essentially the same thing.
