I went to the configuration manager for Outlook Express, and under text 
processing discovered that enhanced editing support was checked.  The 
default is to be unchecked, so I can't imagine how it got checked to begin 
with.
Anyway, problem solved.

  I like those kinds of problems for sure. A few more of those and this list 
might go out of business though, and that may be a bad thing, let me think
