I did the same thing you did, but mine is unchecked.
It spelled fine. hmmmmmmmm!

  That's interesting I just did a test in this email and using the keys you 
  said..jaws key and the numpad 5 and it spelled the word it was on..default 
  and also did it phonetically.
  I looked in my configurations manager and the item is checked so must be a 
  flukey thing on your end..
