Although I don't have trouble with my MW oven or even 2.4ghz (DSSS)
phone... Water, as in rainfall does seem to affect 802.11G at least.

In my situation, I have three access points. Two in the house, and
one inside a large metal shop building near the house.

One of the units in the house is the main AP/Router. The other one is
setup as a client bridge and feeds a media extender in the kids room.

The one in the shop is also set up as a client bridge and uses a 12dBi
directional panel antenna to blow through the metal building (so I
don't have to have an antenna external to the bldg) and connect to the
main AP at the house.

The SNR is borderline during good conditions - it's just good enough to
maintain a solid connection capable of transferring about 4 to 6 mbps
most of the time.

I've been in the shop on numerous occasions during even light rainfall
and had very intermittent connectivity to no connectivity. I have
never experienced a connectivity problem when rain was not present.

I'm not sure how much the SNR is knocked down by rainfall, but I do
know that it only takes a minimal amount of rainfall (or perhaps water
on the external surfaces of the buildings) to kill my signal to the
point it's nearly useless. Perhaps the water isn't absorbing the
signal so much as it's scattering it? Who knows - same result either
way for me.

Just a FWIW.....
