I know that's what she says. I just think it's uh.... incorrect. Let's
break it down. If she wasn't making money, she'd find a way out of her
contract. She's not a victim; she's a survivor.
Now the record company. Record companies are not benevolent. They tell her
that her records lose money so that they don't have to GIVE her any.
Remember Springsteen's flap with Columbia? They maintained that they owed
him little or nothing for "Born To Run" which was a very big record. When
CDs were first released, the industry floated the rumor that CDs were
expensive to buy because it cost a record company $5 to make one. That's
ridiculous!
Where I work, we recently contracted a promo CD for a radio station. The
person in charge of production told me that the printing, cutting, folding,
and stuffing of the cover cost _more_ than the CD pressing.
I'm not believing it for a minute. No offense to those accountants and
bookkeepers in the record industry. Some of them are among my friends!
This one goes out to Davis, California: Mwahh!
