I don't know what her deal was with him. My comments are based on what she
and Geffen have discussed in various interviews. Your recall below is
pretty much the
same as mine. Geffen was positioned as the cool, up-and-coming label in the
early '80s - maybe Joni was initially drawn to that and maybe she thought
she would make money with her old friend promoting her and being on a "hip"
label. Just didn't quite turn out that way.
