Legal is not a clearing house for project names. They can only give
advice if there's a potential conflict, i.e. JSecurity. So far as I
can tell, there is none for alcatraz.
What I'm worried about is that the vetting effort for the JSecurity
name will have the same track record as the v0.9 release. If we
start with alcatraz then we have one less thing impeding our
incubation process.

I must be missing something. There are a handful of uses of the term
JSecurity, including a couple that are related to security services,
but no marketed software using that name and no registered trademarks
using it.
On the other hand, there are at least three actual software products
called Alcatraz (by Aerosoft, Wyse and CoviSec), a bunch of actual
registered trademarks, and a few companies offering security related
services using that name.
I like the name Alcatraz, but how can there be a "potential conflict"
with JSecurity and not Alcatraz? Is there perhaps some reason other
than IP rights why the name is undesirable?
