One thing to remember though is that RSA's technology (crypto, etc..) is
proprietary. Though yes you can develop your own however, a strong knowledge
(i say again "STRONG") in cryptography is essential. RSA is the leading
provider of cyrpto-based solutions. Even its two-factor authentication
technology is superb. It also takes quite a while to get used to how RSA got
to synchronize/authenticate randomly generated numbers in its Key Fobs with
the directory (Edirectory, Active Directory, LDAP). RSA leads in terms of
AES, DES, two-factor authentication, SHA, MD5, Blowfish, and other
encryption technology commercially. Even Novell licenses RSA's own AES and
DES that was incorporated/integrated in Novell's NMAS and CASA technologies.
Deep in the heart of SuSE, RSA encryption is hard at work.

According also to Bruce Schneier, "custom encryption, done loosely is like
giving the key to your house to a thief."
