Well, after this morning I'm officially changing my view on SBC DSL from very good to not recommended due to customer service. 10 months ago I signed a year long contract. This weekend I move to Seattle (out of the service area). I call to cancel my phone today. They want to charge me $200, when the service itself is $40/month. They will not allow me to pay for the remaining 2 months, even though I'd be more than happy to (paying out the remaining contract is fair to me). They will not allow me to keep service for the next tenants for 2 months, unless I keep all services including long distance on the line. I'm not a big enough fool to let people I don't know use my phone long distance for 2 months. Talking in a polite tone through several levels of customer service only led to a PO box I can dispute the charges with. Be very careful of dealing with them- if they can at all, they will screw you.
