I'd love to know what those arguments are.  It's too likely they consist
of "We don't want people to think that just because the job could top
out at a certain number means it's a personal insult to them if their
offer isn't the top figure"

Usually, no salary range = they want to get you in the door without
knowing what crap they want to pay so they can try to talk the position
up as much as possible.  Comes under the heading of "Silly Games" for
me, and I don't play ;-)
