You might want to  take a look at the graphing capabilities of
the OO spreadsheet. It definitely does bar graphs.

Often I think the main problem is "Yet another thing to learn."

For instance, you suggested that I setup Wndows under VMware.
Now that sounds like a good idea. But I have to spend (I am
guessing here) maybe a few days learning VMware. That is probably
usefull ... but I can point at at least a dozen other things
that I could spend a few days learning that have value to me.

So it becomes a matter of priorities.
