No, it was working. I had my list of packages and exclusions in kickstart, and had verified that the base OS worked, that X worked, etc. I then went on to add a couple of more packages while reinstalling on various systems. I stopped looking at X, because it worked, and because I was exporting the display to my laptop rather than stand in the cold, noisy lab :-) But when I asked someone else to verify my documentation, X no longer worked as expected.
