It has been expressed many times in the past that we would like to provide more value to less experienced kpluggers[1]. Your implications are that there will be a shortage of (experienced) people to run such meetings, which, in fact, always seems to have been the major objection to starting something like this. ==> Maybe it's worth some more thought though? How 'bout if there were newbie self-help meetings without any regularly scheduled experts-in-attendance. Maybe with drop-ins from apprentice-gurus. ;-) 1. Some common questions could probably be definitely resolved. 2. Some questions could be speculatively resolved. 3. Some questions could be whittled down into a consensus guess of a good way to actually describe the problem. (A significant step!) The newbies could participate in their own list, maybe even take responsibility for a wiki section and/or build a FAQ. I'm sure help would be available on any of these details. I bet there would be some of the more experienced people willing to monitor such lists and pubs, and contribute expertise where needed. Items 2 & 3 above might lead to input from the more experienced which overcomes simple obstacles, or it might lead to presentation ideas that could be adopted for either newbie or main meeting topics. I'd sure like to hear input from anyone who is new to Linux, or from those who find themselves mostly interested in what we call newbie[2] stuff. Notes - - - [1] I'm using this to mean anyone who shows up at KPLUG meetings or subscribes to a KPLUG list. No formal membership implied (by me). [2] We've looked for a better word than "newbie", but not found any good candidates. New suggestion are welcome!
