We've had few problems with 703( update.1 ). Basically, a couple of times the
sleep mode hickuped but unplugging and reconnecting power jumped it out
of sleep mode. the only other issue has been with the touchpad getting jumpy
sometimes after having it on for a few hours but I think that happened with
656 too.

There's a file in the filesystem that'll tell you that but I can't recall what
it is
off hand. I do remember it had a unique name right off of root. But with
703 you now have a menu item off your home icon to tell you all that stuff.
And usually the firmware comes in with the update now so I have been using
the newer firmware too.

The developer key enables alternate booting mechanisms and probably
other stuff related to bitfrost and appication development. I've got XUbuntu
on an SD card that'll boot when I've got the SD card installed. And it's pretty
quick too. I heard that Microsoft didn't have as much to do with adding the
SD slot as was thought. The flash controller was kinda slow and when another
chip was added to improve the speed, adding the SD was included and
also included a fast I/O system for the SD. I've only got a 15Mb/s SD card
but it's pretty quick or atleast it seems quicker than the XO's builtin flash.

none

The default WRT54GL interferes with the mesh( 802.11s ) the XO uses. I've
heard you might need to flash it with the open source firmware so you can
turn of the WRT54GL's 802.11s stuff. Something to do with poor implementation
of 802.11s and the XO's version of the 802.11s implementation. Check out
the laptop.org wiki to find out the specifics.
