I just picked up an SD card at Costco today so I could try such an install.
I picked up my SD card(s) at Costco also since they are 15 Mb/s rated and
also read that the SD slot came out of some hardware work on the XO trying
to speed up onboard flash. The resulting changes to the XO hardware added
the SD interface and so they just added the socket and circuit.
FYI, there's a ton of stuff on that wiki( wiki.laptop.org ).

I've installed the Build 703 RC and agree that it seems better than 656.
However, it's reported that it contains a seemingly nasty bug affecting
an installed SD card: http://dev.laptop.org/ticket/4013.
I expect that as long as you only suspend with a) the SD card removed
first, or b) while running the alternate OS, then there will be no
problem. But suspending while running the native OS will corrupt the SD
card's partition table.
Hopefully they will have this ironed out before the the next stable
Build. Have you encountered any such problems yet?
