Could you enumerate "both forms of trackball".

Two forms I know of are the small ball to be manipulated by the thumb,
and the large ball, manipulated by first, second, and third fingers in
combination.  I don't like the thumb ball at all.

As far as I can tell, circular and linear gestures in combination can
be made with the large ball.  But I don't really have any backlog of
experience to test them against.

Different implementations of the large ball kind have better or worse
arrangements of the switches.  The worst arrangement to me is having
the switches on the far side of the ball from the user's hand, so you
have to reach over the ball to press them.
