We can perfectly do an experiment for Tamil, so you can go on (but please do read the "Tips for translators" I mentioned). The two problems we have now are: - We can't create accounts for new volunteers, so you will have to work anonymously - As Jan mentioned on the dev list, we can support a very limited amount of translators (2-3) due to performance limitations.
These are the reasons that force us to wait before recommending Pootle for the translation workflow. But I don't see anything bad in making this test for Tamil. The strings you contribute will, obviously, be under the Apache License 2, like the OpenOffice source code.
