Dear Sirs, Thank you for finding the error of translation - "Basic" referred to the programming language.
I think it is a good practice to add a comment for this translation, in order to avoid it to be changed in the future. https://translate.apache.org/sv/aoo40/translate.html#unit=15565390 https://translate.apache.org/sv/aoo40/translate.html#unit=14289103 I think captitilization is the usual way of writing BASIC. My suggestion is to use capitals for BASIC programming language everywhere in order to avoid confusion and because it is standard. There are many small errors in the translation, and I think it is better if the translators fix them directly instead of filing bug reports in Bugzilla. Users might find it dificult to search the bug in Pootle, but if they like and can they can also suggest a change in Pootle. The downside is that they can not make a comments, I think. In summary I think it is okay that people fix things in the Swedish translation. I also think it is a good idea to inform the rest of us about acitivty on this mail list, in order to get an idea of what has been modified and improved, and also learn; also in order to avoid a ping-pong effect where one person correct in one way, and another person correct back to another way, and so on in infinity. One way of avoiding a ping-pong effect, is to let one translator be the main responsible. He "accepts" suggestions. The other translators suggest changes, that the main responsible later accept. /Stefan (Vicinity) P.S. The fixes we make in translation (Pootle), will show up in the next version of OpenOffice, supposedly 4.0.2 -----Original Message----- From: Alexandro Colorado <[email protected]> To: l10n <[email protected]> Sent: Sat, Oct 19, 2013 10:00 pm Subject: Re: The word ”Basic” (the programming language) is translated to Swedish… On Sat, Oct 19, 2013 at 2:56 PM, Johnny Rosenberg <[email protected]>wrote: > 2013/10/19 Alexandro Colorado <[email protected]> > > > Piece of advice, create a bug in https://issues.apache.org/ooo/ and > > address > > the project manager for svenska. > > > > The main contributor to the swedish site is vicinity > > https://translate.apache.org/accounts/vicinity/ > > > > Yes, and I thought he was subscribed to this list, because I think I saw > him post here before, so I just though I would reach the right person by > writing here. > Oh you did good, is just that this is a 'bug' and is good to have it on the bug tracker to secure the evolution of it. I actually took the liberty to go into pootle and fix it myself. However I am not sure how it can be tested. > > > > > > As a side note, the sv site is heavily broken, > > http://www.openoffice.org/sv/ > > > > > > On Sat, Oct 19, 2013 at 8:17 AM, Alexandro Colorado <[email protected]> > wrote: > > > > > Probably a person with Pootle access could query these strings and > > > identify the correct sdf/xliff file. > > > > > > > > > On Sat, Oct 19, 2013 at 8:12 AM, Johnny Rosenberg < > > [email protected]>wrote: > > > > > >> Tools → Macros → Organize macros → OpenOffice Basic… > > >> Translated to: > > >> Verktyg → Makron → Organisera makron → OpenOffice grundläggande… > > >> > > >> Should be translated to: > > >> Verktyg → Makron → Organisera makron → OpenOffice Basic > > >> since the word Basic in this case is a programming language and should > > not > > >> be translated. > > >> > > >> Apache OpenOffice 4.0.1. > > >> > > >> > > >> > > >> Johnny Rosenberg > > >> > > >> P.S.
