Title: Re: [labradoodles] new group
I agree with you on the hair/coat, allergy, champions, etc concerns.  However, I personally do see value in cerf and OFA because the chances are better that a dog will have better hips and eyes if they stem from a genetic history of good hips and good eyes.  I think that all breeders owe it to the breed/dogs to only use dogs/bitches in their breeding programs who have good hips and good eyes.  If every breeder did that, the bad hips and eyes would eventually be bred out.  Of course this is not a guarantee in any way that a puppy one chooses will end up having good hips and eyes, but I do think they have a better chance and I do think it is the most ethical choice for a breeder.  And I believe that a prospective buyer who is aware, informed, educated, done their homework, and wants to choose carefully is to be applauded.  These are the people breeders should be selling to.  That is not the same as someone looking for a guarantee.  That IS a pain, and those are the people who probably end up trying to return the dog like they would a pair of shoes.  I think a buyer should ask alot of questions, be well informed, choose carefully, and the breeder should be forthcoming, honest and appreciative of someone who's taken the time and made the effort to be well informed. Then when the choice is made, it is more likely to be a lifetime commitment no matter what the pup grows up to be.

if you look at the details, you will see the difference...like a Registered Labrador and Registered Poodle (both AKC & CKC) can be in the $300 range, while the higher ranges will have what cheaper ones don't (dna testing, microchipping, tattoos, CERF, OFA, and genetic testing) others would have you believe that Australian in front of the name makes it a higher quality dog (it doesn't make it better or more authentic) and others still just have the price high because the demand is there.
I have 3 wavy, and two hair coats left (I am not breeding again) and I will tell you they are the best dogs ever! I love them to pieces. Cute! But I got tired of people calling irate, and asking if they were Cerf or if they were OFA or were their champs in the gene pool. I can tell you what I have learned, you either love the pup or you don't, unconditionally. I don't want buyers who have such lofty ideas, as to hair coat (they all shed, I don't care what they tell you) and hypo allergenic (there is no such thing, allergies aren't always to hair but to dander and saliva). Get a pup because you love it, and don't spend unnecessary money on things that can't be controlled. Even the best OFA and Cerf can't guarantee a dog won't get hip dysplasia or eye problems.
To each his own, but I will never breed again, because it is so hard to love a puppy & pass it on to someone with too many expectations. Also, temperament...labs and poodles have a 3 year puppy/adolescence, yet people all over the internet are saying they test and guarantee temperament. It can't be done. Temperament is both genetic and environmental.
CKC states that my pups are registered as mixed breeds, and can compete in shows with other mixed breeds...that is to accommodate the breeds being crossed, but unrecognized to date by other forums as full breeds.
