while genetic test cost may vary many people think the are exorbitant in price and that is not true.  NO offense and not directed at Carla at all as she may have been misled. Breeders not 'willing' to get their dogs tested at least on the most important test are doing everyone a dis service - themselves - their dogs - the new puppy owners.   NO one can just look at a dog and declare it free of hip displasia ...  I have seen folks with dogs  that did not come cheap as breeding potential have to have double hip replacement before 1 year old. no one would want that for any dog.

locally - OFA hip x-ray and submit to OFA for certification - a one time thing $75- any vet can do and submit - add in patellas and elbows for $15 - $25 more.

Cerf done at university or at certified ophthalmologist $27 for first dog $22 a dog after. we get ours done every other year. takes a specialist

Vwd - a one time thing at $50 - any vet can do and submit

DNA map - $20 - $40 - any vet can take sample and submit.  you can order kit and take a mouth swab yourself to send in to AKC or lab.

microchip - our cost $7 per - this varies - some vets may charge $75 and do all paperwork for you - this is for your dogs protection only.

lots of info at www.offa.org  for anyone wanting that info and not just the tales that float around

That is was I meant, I probably worded it wrong. I didn't have mine tested, but that is why there is a difference in price that the original writer was asking about, like $350- $5000.  I called, those test are like 350 to 1000 per dog and not done locally.
