Hi Cay! I know you and I have talked before! :) When I researched what breed to get for my next Service Dog I did a pro/con list for each of my top 5 breeds. When I got done the Labradoodle was at the top of the list. I also talked with a Service Dog organization that trained and worked with my top 3 choices and when we got done talking it was agreed the Labradoodle was my top choice.
Really it just comes down to what you want and need. Both breeds offer some different things. I feel the Labradoodle is less maintenance but they are not no maintenance and many are still high maintenance. A lot depends on what generation you are looking at too. I can tell you that an Aussie Doodle will get you a ton of attention :) I can't go any where that I am not stopped (several times each trip) and asked about my Andy guy. People come up and take his picture!! While one of my goals on my list was to have a dog that drew people to me not pushed them away I never imagined it would be this much of a pull :) But the therapy is good for me because with Fibro I had become and still am in ways, anti-social and didn't use to be and I wished to work on it. Of course Andy does way more than that for me :) He has lots of tasks I depend on. Because you are wanting a guide dog I would talk to the organizations and see which breeders they are getting their dogs from and what lines. I think in that way you can avoid being conned. Some of those breeders do donate dogs. I think one needs to be pickier with choosing their guide dogs. While Andy is a terrific SD for me he would have failed at being a guide dog. That wonderful nose of his that is so good at doing alert work would have gotten him in trouble for guide work :) I know of a breeder I could recommend if you want to email me. None of my Doodles are very vocal but they are goofy with lots of personality! I think they get that from a poodle. I have debated on getting a poodle just so I can experience the difference. :) But I am totally hooked on my Doodles!! My goal is to eventually have a line for Service Dog work. I have a puppy being trained as a Therapy dog from this current litter :) I plan on training a puppy in Therapy Work from my next litter. I'm still new and getting set up! :) Shari At 07:17 AM 7/4/2006 -0700, you wrote: >I am a Labradoodle Wanna-be for sure.
