Norfolk Lacemakers held their annual laceday on Saturday which was a
great success we had quite a few suppliers including Sarah Jones who
made some lovely commemorative bobbins for us. The speaker was Tanya
Elliot who gave us a talk on her re-creation of Mary Tudor's Wedding
Dress. The material alone cost £100 per meter and it took 10 metres,
it took her 3 weeks to do the embroidery alone, it was an extremely
interesting hour. No one actually recorded what colour the dress was
that she wore for her wedding but through much research and elimination
it was thought to be purple and gold with real gold thread for the
embroidery, it is said to have cost the same amount of money as a
warship would have done in that day which was one way to say how rich
and powerful she was . From start to finish it took Tanya three years
to complete and we are all looking forward to her next visit as she will
be able to bring the dress with her unfortunately we could not have it
on Saturday as it is on show at a museum on the South Coast. If ever
you get the chance to have Tanya as your speaker grab it with both
hands, I think you will be extremely happy, we certainly were.
