Because of a personal email I received from another list member, I'll
take advantage of this chance to jump in and make a few comments:

First of all, I think that this list has historically done a very good
job of avoiding contention. I find that admirable, and feel that it
reflects the ethics of participating list memebers. Such an approach
will help us in our efforts to be guided by the Spirit in our communal
efforts.

That said, I think it is very important that we welcome and discuss
issues that are challenging, where we are divided, and where there are
dissenting opinions. There is little need to discuss that which is
obvious, but more complex matters can benefit from some good, kind,
discussion coming from various perspectives. And again, historically we
have done a decent job at this.

I hope that we can continue to maintain a reasonable balance between
avoiding contention while still discussing controversial issues. And in
saying that, I am by no means implying that the current thread has
failed to do so. ;-)
