IMHO this discussion is really all about getting to know each other.
That alone is valuable.

I am also not currently in a position to start a new open source project
(I just started a different one), but I'm trying to bend the group in a
technology direction that I can eventually follow and/or lead.  I don't
wish to spend my time on pure Windows software, for example, but I'm
more than happy to work on something that's targeted primarily for
Windows but also runs on Linux.
