I like your cdrom idea, but I think the use of xml metadata is useful too.
If we use xml metadata, configuration information can be reused for
multiple releases, new versions, and cloning. Example: Oxygen and
EigerStein cdroms are each able to read the same metadata config file.
Switching between releases or updating to a new version is easy. Just put
the cdrom in, tell it where the metadata config file is, feed it one or two
floppies and you're done.
